Is Your Dog Baby Ready?

So, you’re having a baby and you already have a dog. What’s the best way to introduce the two so that there are as few problems as possible? I’m sure you’ve heard that you should bring home a dirty diaper, or a blanket from the hospital after the baby is born, so that your dog will become accustomed to the scent of the baby. This is a good idea, but did you know there are many things you can do before you have your baby, and not wait until after you give birth, to help smooth the transition of bringing home baby to your family dog? This program focuses on preparing your dog for the arrival of your new baby, including an easy to read booklet that discusses …

o Four important, and useful, commands that your dog should master before your newborn comes home.

o How to incorporate those four commands into daily activities

o Setting up the nursery

o Introducing baby equipment

o Setting up boundaries in your home

o Appropriate toys,

o A ‘safe zone’ for your dog once baby has arrived

o Step by step instructions for the first introduction of dog and baby

o the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT piece of safety advice you can receive

o how to make a smooth transition once everyone is home

Temperament Testing
Do you know what kind of dog or puppy you’re looking for but need help choosing the right one for your family? It’s easy to fall in love with the first puppy running up to you or the sad face at your local animal shelter, but that may not always be the best puppy or dog for your family’s needs. A puppy can be temperament tested at 7 weeks old and give us indications as to what their personalities, ability to train and how social they will be as adults. Adult dogs have already grown into their personality. We can gauge their reactions through a series of tests to see what type of personality and needs they have and if they will be a match for your family.

Canine Good Citizen Testing

Open to any breed or breed mix of any age.

Welcome to the AKC's Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) Program. Started in 1989, CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

Many dog owners choose Canine Good Citizen training as the first step in training their dogs. The Canine Good Citizen Program lays the foundation for other AKC activities such as obedience, agility, tracking, and performance events. As you work with your dog to teach the CGC skills, you'll discover the many benefits and joys of training your dog. Training will enhance the bond between you and your dog. Dogs who have a solid obedience education are a joy to live with-they respond well to household routines, have good manners in the presence of people and other dogs, and they fully enjoy the company of the owner who took the time to provide training, intellectual stimulation, and a high quality life. We sincerely hope that CGC will be only a beginning for you and your dog and that after passing the CGC test, you'll continue training in obedience, agility, tracking, or performance events.
