April News- Exciting New Additions!

We have not one, not even two but THREE great new programs to offer starting in April!!

We are so excited to be working with the Kenton County Animal Shelter in their newly expanded facility!  We will be offering two wonderful programs to the public in hopes of helping the community to build lines of communication with their dogs and reduce the number of owner surrenders to the shelter.

The first program is Puppy Kindergarten.   Puppy K will teach owners how to best communicate with their puppy and provide an opportunity for socialization. We’ll educate owners on how to teach your puppy limits they can understand, confidence building, proper handling, the importance of proper socialization, how to decrease behavior issues and to better understand a puppy’s needs. We’ll answer puppy-raising questions including housetraining, chewing, safe toy selection and the most effective way to teach practical skillssuch as sit and coming when called.  Upon successful completion, this class will meet the requirements for the AKC’s new S.T.A.R Puppy Program, a puppy version of the well known Canine Good Citizen program, emphasizing responsible dog ownership.  This class is open for enrollment of puppies ages 8-16 weeks.  We will meet once per week for 6 weeks.  The cost of the class will be $90. per puppy.  Please contact the KCAS directly at 859 356 7400 for enrollment.

Our second program offered through KCAS is a Manners 101, Basic Obedience class.    Our goal in this class is to teach you how to teach your dog commands and skills that will help them become a well mannered companion.  All dogs should be trained in the basics of obedience; down, sit, stay and walking politely on a leash.  Of course one of the benefits is a better behaved dog but obedience training also clarifies a dog’s position in the family pack, and when done well, using fair and consistent communication, increases the bond between you and your dog.  We’llalso be discussing basic behavior challenges like jumping, excessive barking and chewing.  Emphasis is placed on developing a healthy and  happy relationship between you and your dog, using a balanced training approach.  This class is open to dogs over the age of 16 weeks, is a 6 week class meeting weekly.  The cost is $90.  Please contact the KCAS  directly at 859 356 7400 for enrollment.

Our last but certainly not least, program to be introduced, is PUPPY PARTIES- a SOCIAL gathering!  Veterinarians and dog trainers agree; early puppy socialization is crutial to the development of a well-rounded adult dog. Socializing with other puppies before your puppy is fully vaccinated can be a challenge but this is the period when it matters most! In a public setting, you don’t always know if your puppy is being exposed to other puppies that have not been vaccinated, making them more vulnerable to illnesses.  We’ve created a safer environment!  Puppy Parites are held in an indoor, clean area and is only open to puppies who have had at least one round of vaccinations.  Your puppy will also meet a variety of people and be exposed to numerous new objects to assist in building confidence.  We’ll start off with a 10 min Q & A, play “Pass the Puppy” to work on handling exercises and allow the puppies to play off-leash together in a suporvised environment.  Puppy Parties are hosted by Erlanger Pet Resort & Day Spa and open to puppies ages 8-16 weeks of age. Please visit our Puppy Programs page for more info.  Come join the FUN!!
